Downriver Play Day Clinic (Class III-IV)

Downriver Play Day!

A combat roll is required!  The best boat option to bring will be determined by water level (play boat vs creek boat)

During the clinic we will work on having fun in rapids instead of just getting through them. The day will consist of possible multiple laps on a single rapid or lapping the entire section of river we decide to use.  We will focus on lining up and practicing our timing moves on known features, work on using eddies to break rapids up into boat-scoutable chunks of fun. We will begin to read features to play with, on the fly (what to look for while staying safe).

Based on flows, the could consist of:
  • Catching challenging eddies
  • Boofin'
  • Sufing
  • Rock splats
  • Rock spins
  • Stern squirts
  • Bow stalls
  • Piroettes
  • Throwin' wave wheels
  • Brown claws
  • Paddle Twirls
  • etc.
Paddlers can see how downriver play skills translate to real creeking skills.
