Sucia, Patos, Matia Islands

Experience the wonderful solitude of Sucia in the off season.

Tentative plan:
Depending on how early we need to start, options are stay overnight Thursday or catch the 7:40 or 11:20 (for sleepy heads) am ferry to Orcas on Friday.   The late ferry would mean launch from North Beach around 2pm.  We cross to Echo Bay, set up camp, then circle around N end of Sucia (wary of falling rocks and leaping sea lions from cliffs) after camp is set up to leave boats in Shallow Bay.

If weather is good, we will visit Patos on Saturday.  The Rips from Hell off Alden Pt. will be avoided.

On Sunday, visit Matia on our way back to Orcas.  Puffin I is exceedingly beautiful.

Return in time for the 6:20 pm ferry on Sunday.

This trip involves several crossing of 2-3 miles between islands.  We plan to do these crossings with winds no more than 15 knots (seas 1-2 feet), but the weather here can be full of surprises, so participants must be comfortable with and prepared for potentially rough conditions. Moderate rips can be expected around reefs or with wind against current.

If the trip is full, bribe the trip leader to open more slots.
