Kayak Polo Players Wanted in Kirkland

Brenna McVety  | Published on Saturday, February 7, 2015

Dave,

I would appreciate it if you would share this with WKC:
There is a group of intrepid folks who play kayak polo every wednesday at 6pm in Kirkland, and we need more players.  Location is Marsh park at NE 67th and Lake Washington Blvd.  We communicate thru a Yahoo Group creatively called "Kirkland Kayak Polo" to determine if we have enough players each week.  You just show up on time with whatever you want to wear and a suspicious guy in a van provides paddles and sit on top kayaks.  It is free and there are no waivers to sign.  We don't keep score.  The rules are easy to learn, but it will seem like we make them up as we go.  Kayak Rolling is not part of the game.  There is some contact and some people wear helmets, PFDs and elbow pads, but most contact is boat to boat.  Kayak skills are not required, but playing will build skills and fitness.  We play all year, and the city of Kirkland installed lights to allow playing after dark.  In the summer we have plenty of players but when it's cold and dark we often don't have enough, hence the plea for new members.
